Part 3: Success – Waiting Won’t Get You There
Are you a waiter? You know, the kind of person who delays getting into action, putting things off, thinking about it, gathering more information, letting it all percolate down through your subconscious till you fully understand every nuance of the situation… and by then it’s probably much too late. Is that you?
Well, this article is intended to give you reasons to become an acter rather than a waiter. Yes, I know, that’s your basic nature. It’s in your DNA, so it can’t be changed. And that’s absolutely, immutably true…
As long as you believe it’s true.
But if you ever ventured to change that belief about yourself, suddenly you’d start finding little bits of proof that just the opposite is “true” – that indeed you are a person of quick, sure decisions, that you leap into action with absolute confidence…
As soon as you believe it’s true.
In this third part of the series, Coach Faye Hollands suggests that we…
Stop Waiting to Be Successful! Find Out How to Accelerate Your Success Now
By Faye Hollands
William B Sprague once said “Do not wait to strike until the iron is hot; but make it hot by striking” . This sums up the difference between people who are successful versus those who are hoping, wishing and waiting for good things to come their way.
Don’t By-Pass Good Opportunities
When you think about the things you want in your personal and professional life, what side of the fence are you sitting on at the moment? Are you putting yourself out there, learning, developing and challenging yourself or are you sitting back, frustrated that you’re not living the life you want, but also not doing much about it? It’s time to be brutally honest with yourself.
I equate ‘waiting until the iron is hot’ to be the same as your comfort zone – it’s that place where you have most of the resources you need to make a decision or take action, and where all the pieces of the jigsaw puzzle seem to fit together nicely.
Of course that sounds great – it’s not challenging or stressful and it’s an obvious course of action with little or no threat. The problem is, however, that to get to your comfort zone TAKES TIME and with time comes lost opportunity.
If you’re waiting for ‘things to be perfect’, or for ‘the iron to be hot’ before you strike and take action you WILL pass up chances and experiences that may not come your way again.
Someone once said to me “sloppy success is better than perfect mediocrity” and it’s really stuck with me as I’ve built my business and made life-changing decisions. Waiting until the iron is hot, or for the ‘perfect time’ to do something, can mean you miss out and simply waste time whereas stepping outside of your comfort zone, and feeling a little uncomfortable at times, IS a great way to move forward in life.
EXERCISE: So grab a pen and paper now and make a list of the key things you want to achieve in your life RIGHT NOW. Then jot down one simple thing you can do to take action on each point this week.
Remember – you’re not looking for perfection here, you simply need to put one small foot in front of the other every single day to move closer to your dreams and aspirations.
TIP: Hoping, wishing and waiting is NOT a success strategy!

Back to Charles:
Faye gave us two important points, which I hope you picked up on.
- Sloppy success is better than perfect mediocrity
- Hoping, wishing and waiting is NOT a success strategy
Successful people get things done. Sure they make some mistakes along the way, sometimes a lot of them, but they make things happen, too. What they don’t do is fart around waiting till the time is perfect.
To drive the point home even more firmly, here’s a PDF report I wrote. It’s titled “Why Fast Starters Begin Before They’re Ready.” I hope you’ll read it and take it to heart. Using just the things you’ve learned in this 3-part series (plus my report), you can seriously change anything in your life that you’ve a mind to.
So how about it? What’ll you be changing first?
Cheers from warm and smiling Thailand,
Charles
